Israelis fasting in Berlin for Palestinian right to live in Qods

Callling themselves ‘Israelis Against Occupation’, the group announced ‘a 24-hour fast in solidarity with Firas Maraghy’ who has been on a a hunger strike near the Israeli embassy in Berlin since July 26 over the Zionist regime’s refusal to issue travel documents to his seven-month-old baby daughter Zainab which would allow her to live in occupied al-Qods.

Maraghy could also risk his own residency status, if he does not return to al-Qods by May 2011.

The Jewish Israel critics stressed their strong protest over the Zionist state’s discriminatory policy towards Paelstinians.

‘We as Israelis and Jews suffer no such restrictions when leaving and returning to Israel. We are opposed to the discriminatory policy which differentiates between us as Israeli Jews, and Firas as a Palestinian,’ the organization said in a statement.

‘Firas’ case is just one example of the larger discriminatory policy at work in Jerusalem and Israel/Palestine as whole,’ it added.

Berlin has been the scene of numerous rallies in solidarity with Maraghy’s cause.

Branding the Zionist state ‘racist’, Maraghy has vowed to continue his hunger strike until Israeli officials grant him the necessary residence permit for his child.

His humanitarian case has also become of major interest to Germany’s mainstream media which usually does not really highlight the Zionist regime’s ongoing discriminatory policies against Palestinians.
