Saudi Arabia: Gunmen attack Masjid in Riyadh

Three men, including an imam, have been injured in a shooting which occurred at a mosque following late night Ramadan prayers in the Saudi city of Riyadh.

The incident happened on Wednesday when unknown gunmen attacked worshippers outside the capital’s Prince Sultan Mosque following the “taraweeh” prayers, observed during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to witnesses, three men took part in the attack and fled the scene in a Toyota Camry, AFP cited a report on the Sabq.org news website as saying.

The attack lightly injured the imam and a muezzin who were released after receiving medical treatment at a clinic, while a third person was hospitalized.

An informed Saudi official said the incident appeared to be over a private dispute.

“This is just a criminal situation, a dispute between people,” he told AFP.
